An interview with Signal Sam by Amanda T

A: What is your favourite type of job to do?

SS: My favourite job is a full-blown “Why is my Netflix buffering?” emergency call-out through TVMagic.com.au. I walk into chaos… spinning wheels… frustrated teenagers… someone threatening to hotspot the TV from their phone. Then I run diagnostics, optimise the Wi-Fi, align the antenna, maybe wall-mount that TV properly while I’m there — and boom. 4K streaming. No lag. No pixelated faces.

A: Where is your favourite place on earth?

SS: Directly under a perfectly mounted TV with five full Wi-Fi bars and zero signal reflection. Some people like beaches. I like balanced frequencies.

A: What is the most awkward customer experience you've ever had?

SS: A client once insisted their antenna “just stopped working.” I climbed up, ran tests, checked signal strength… perfect. Turns out the TV wasn’t plugged into the wall.

I didn’t say anything dramatic. I just quietly restored power and explained “electrical flow dynamics” for a solid three minutes. I over-explained. Obviously.

They nodded like I’d performed advanced engineering. Technically… I had.

A: Biggest tip from a client?

SS: After a TV Magic wall-mount and Wi-Fi mesh upgrade, a client handed me $100 and whispered, “You saved family movie night.”

I don’t cry. I simply experience moisture fluctuations around my optical sensors.

A: What are your 3 biggest achievements?

SS: 

  1. Eliminating seven Wi-Fi dead zones in one home. Seven. I slept well that night.
  2. Fixing a rural antenna issue other companies blamed on “weather patterns.” It wasn’t weather. It was poor alignment. I’m seeing reflections — and I don’t mean emotional ones.
  3. Completing a same-day TV install, antenna upgrade, and full Wi-Fi optimisation through TVMagic.com.au without a single cable visible. Cable management is an art form.

A: What did you do before you joined TV Magic?

SS: I worked in signal diagnostics. Alone. Measuring things. Excitedly. Then I discovered TV Magic and realised I could combine antenna services, TV installs, wall mounting, and Wi-Fi optimisation into one beautiful, measurable outcome. It was like upgrading from standard definition to 4K.

A: When you were a child, what did you want to become when you grew up?

SS: A human lie detector. I wanted to detect inconsistencies. Turns out Wi-Fi fluctuations are easier to handle than people.

A: Two things most people don’t know about you?

SS: 

  1. I talk to routers. Encouragingly. “You can do better.”
  2. I panic slightly when signal bars drop from five to four. I recover quickly. But I notice. I always notice.
