If you're wondering how much it costs to install a new TV aerial or fix your current system, the best answer is, it varies depending on what's actually wrong and the state of your current tv aerial system as a whole, because your TV signal is only as good as its weakest point. There's no point putting a new TV aerial on an old beat-up antenna system and thinking you've solved the issue if you know what I mean. 5 Things that can short-out a TV signal booster
- A corroded wall plate connection. If your TV wall plate is rusted or corroded, it's very likely that it's going to prevent the power from your signal booster from progressing up to the amplifier.
- Incorrectly terminated wall plate. Electricians and DIYers often make a mess of the cable join / termination behind the wall plate, which means the volts are going to short-out and the signal booster won't power up. Best to hire TV aerial expert to do Tv aerial work I think ;)
- The splitter. If your TV signal amplifier is powered before the splitter, you have to make sure the cable terminations on the splitter are perfect and particularly that no water has been travelling down the coax line from the roof into the splitter.
- Water logged cable. Sometimes water can get into the cabling from the TV antenna and booster at Tugun homes and travel down to either the amplifier or splitter and short-out the voltage from your booster.
- Cable terminations. It's really easy for someone who doesn't do this work every day to make a mistake with the cable terminations. Often they think they know what they're doing, but really they don't, they are fooled by a semi-reliable digital tv result despite their mistakes. However, these mistakes will always stop your TV aerial from working when you introduce a signal booster that sends some voltage up the line.
A real-life example from today, 7th May 2019 follows:
"Wendy was having trouble with her TV reception at her Tugun home after a recent storm. When we arrived, Wendy explained that she'd been having consistent issues after wet weather and this time the TV reception has not come back on at all. After we inspected on the roof, we found that her masthead-amplifier / booster had fallen off the mast and become water logged. We explained to Wendy that she needed to replace her signal booster / masthead amplifier and a few other bits and pieces in order to get new one to work reliably. We ended up replacing her coax cabling from the antenna to the amplifier, the amplifier into the roof cavity, the old rusted splitter, cable terminations, her digital tv wall plate and the signal booster to power it all."
"Daniel moved into a new home in Tugun and found that he couldn't get any of his TV's to tune in, so he called out TV Magic Gold Coast. When we arrived, we found that his home had a really old, dilapidated TV aerial system which basically needed replacing.
