No doubt you've already seen how awesome wall mounted TV's look nowadays. They're so thin and sit really close to the wall like a painting. Not only do they open up your space, it provides much safer installation than on a cabinet for curious kids or pets. Did you know, unfortunately, falling Tv's serious injury and or kill more children than most dangerous wild animals? We actually get quite a few of our Tugun customers calling us in to wall mount their big heavy Tv's because of this reason alone! Personally, I'm just trying to keep my toddlers hand prints of my big screen at home ;)
Since sound-bars are becoming the norm in our Tugun Gold Coast customers home nowadays, we're often getting calls to come out and help them get up and running properly. Ideally, if you've setup your soundbar properly you really should only need the one remote, your original TV remote. Your TV remote should automatically turn on and off as your TV is. It should also control the volume on the sound bar too. However, there is multiple ways to install a sound bar with cables and not all of the methods will give you these great features. 4 Things our customers have trouble with having a go at doing this own sound-bar installation.
- Wall mounting it level. Sound bars don't often come with a good bracket to mount it to the wall, only higher end manufacturers such as Sonos or Bose have thought this out properly and provided decent mounting brackets. The rest basically leave you with a picture hook style mount on each end of the bracket, which makes it difficult to be 100% accurate without being able to make adjustments after you hang the sound bar.
- Hiding the cables. If you're wall mounting your soundbar, you'll quickly notice that you've got very little room for error when it comes to making a concealed hole for the cables. Unlike a TV where you've got a huge area to play with, a sound bar is much more difficult.
- Getting the TV remote to work. If you've installed your Sound-bar correctly, your TV remote should control it and you won't need the soundbar remote. However, this means you need to cabling it in the correct way, and know how to tweak the inner sound settings of your TV (sometimes).
- Using the correct cables. Sound bars usually come with a free optical cable, which is not ideal if you want to use all the cool HDMI arc features of your sound-bar. So you have to be cluey enough to recognise the free cable isn't the best option.
A real-life example from today, 6th May 2019 follows:
"Rhianna wanted to get her sound-bar off her TV cabinet so she could get rid of it and just have a clean mounted TV and sound-bar on the wall with nothing underneath it at her Tugun Gold Coast home. This setup actually looks really good, I have it at home. The trick is getting power to your TV and sound-bar. At home I have the power coming from the other side of the wall, but you could get an electrician to install a power point behind the TV if there's room. In Rhianna's case, her TV wall backed onto the garage, so we ran all the power cables out into the garage to an existing power point in there."
"Martin bought a new Sonos soundbar and wanted it to work with his smart Tv, but he couldn't figure out how to set it up. When we arrived, we found that Martin didn't have a good internet wi-fi signal in his Tugun home at the location of his TV. This is a problem for Sonos systems, they require a good Wi-Fi signal to work, and particular, to get the initial setup done. So, what we did, was move the SONOS sound bar to next to his modem and completed the initial setup process, then moved it back to the TV in working order."
