"Max was having trouble setting up his surround sound speakers and amplifier after moving house into Tallebudgera and called in TV Magic. After suggesting that we run the speaker cables through the walls and ceiling to make it much neater Max was super keen. After we completed the surround sound speaker installation, calibrated and setup his AV Receiver / amplifier we installed his home cinema projector on the ceiling as well and just used the white painted wall as the projector screen which worked great in this instance."

5 Pieces of equipment our customers have trouble setting up in their media rooms

  1. Av Receivers / amplifiers"The big black box that drives your speakers and has tons of cables plugged into it". Home cinema amplifiers can be very tricky to setup for someone that doesn't understand what they are doing, they're not really a plug and play item for a DIYer.
  2. Projectors. Aside from installing your projector the correct distance away from your screen, they can be really fiddly to calibrate. An amateur could get themselves very frustrated trying to get a clear, proper sized image on the wall with straight edges.
  3. Adding new media equipment to an existing setup. Most often our Tallebudgera customers didn't setup their own media / cinema room themselves and don't really understand how it all works, they've just been following a routine to get their DVD playing or Foxtel viewing up and running. So, when they buy a new piece of equipment like a new Blue-ray player, apple TV or whatever, they don't have a clue how to hook it up to their amplifier, projector and then use it, which is when they tend to call us. ;)
  4. Replacing faulty components. Usually it's the AV amplifier or projector that dies first; good speakers tend to live forever. These two items are the most technical for the average person to install a replacement for too. And, usually if you've just brought a new AV receiver, amplifier or projector it's generally too ahead technologically that you're pretty much having to replace all the main components that make up your home cinema the same time in order to get a great result.
  5. Universal Remotes With having lots of AV equipment working together to create your media room comes lots of remotes to control each item. So, many of our Tallebudgera customers tend to have fancy universal remotes to work it all easily. However, when those remotes break or they need to replace some home theatre equipment those remotes will need reprogramming, which is something most our customers don't have a clue on how to do and end up calling us in to help.

A real-life example from today, 13th March 2019 follows:

"Henry got given a surround sound home theatre kit from a friend for his home in Tallebudgera Gold Coast and didn't have a clue on how to set it up so he called us in. When we arrived we found a spaghetti or cables and an old TV to connect it to. After we un-tangled the speaker wire we noticed some was missing and he was short an optical cable to connect it to his TV. Lucky we keep all those sorts of things in our work vans and we could complete the install okay."

Some of my media room installations

Here, a bedroom was turned into a media room! Featuring, a projector installation with white projector and white bracket - (in bedroom) Featuring a 200" screen and wireless lifestyle sound system

This designated media room (below) features A 120" Screen with white in wall speakers - 5.1 system

This designated media / cinema room (below) features leather cinema chairs, royal red cinema carpet, royal red sound dampened walls, motorised cinema curtains, fixed frame 150" screen and a state of the art  surround sound system

I can tailor media room packages and equipment to your personal taste and/or colour scheme

A nice media room with oversized book shelf speakers, centre speaker & sub woofer flush inside designated recessed spaces

This is a typical 'home theatre setup' I do on day-to-day basis. The more, sophisticated full-spec home cinemas are more a once a week/fortnight kind of thing. (The white TV and white speakers are a new trend of 2017/18)

Here is one of my favourite home theatre installation jobs I've ever done. At the time, this was a super slim $6000 Ultra HD 60" TV that gave an absolutely stunning picture. Wall mounted on a feature wall along with some high end floor standing and centre speaker this was a home theatre system that had better quality gear than many of the designated home theatre rooms!

This is another of my favourites.. media room installed in a regular lounge room. I installed the led cup holders in a $10,000 lounge. The same centre lounge centre-console houses a power sub woofer underneath so the leather recliners rumble. The speakers are high end Bower & Wilkins, TV cabinet from King Furniture and rug from Rugs a Million lol. To top it all off this home theatre / media room was installed in a rental house ... the projector was installed just behind the lounge on the AV rack housing all the A.V gear as opposed to mounted from the ceiling. No cables are to be seen anywhere and there won't be any holes for the tennant after they move out except 2x little holes that hold the projector screen brackets :)

A designated cinema room with a simple setup. Mood downlights and a TV on the wall..

Now you might have to decide what speakers you want for your home theatre system!

And do you want a projector and screen? Or a large TV on the wall for your media room?
