(5) Common amateur mistakes we see in home theatre speaker amplifier installations.

1. Using the free speaker cable or high gauge. When using surround sound speakers, you really want to be using at least a 14guage speaker wire, any thinner than you're probably going to be limiting the volume potential of your home theatre speakers and or you might cause the amplifier to cut out entirely when you raise the volume.

2. Speaker orientation. When connecting the many speaker wires into your amplifier you need to know which is left and which is right. Seems obvious doesn't it? But do you take your reference point from looking towards the TV or from where you are at the back of the amplifier doing the work (which is the opposite) ;)

3. Speaker levels not set. Most amplifiers come with an auto-calibration tool nowadays that you plug in when you first set it up; however, it's not that accurate. You ideally need to know what you're doing so you can manually set the speaker level and distances yourself.

4. Not optimised cabling to the TV. If you've done it correctly, your TV remote should be controlling the volume on your AV receiver and also turning it on and off as you turn your TV on and off.

5. Poor choice of sound settings. AV receivers are a complicated piece of equipment to get setup well in my opinion, one which most people fumble through. They often don't even realise it could sound so much better if the sound settings where altered by an expert. There are settings in an amplifier that adds effects and controls how the sound is distributed to each speaker. Obviously, you want to be watching movies in proper surround sound, but listening to music quite differently, which is completely different amplifier settings.

A real-life example from today, 24rd May 2019 follows:

"Warwick was enjoying his home cinema media room at his Mermaid Beach home when suddenly the projector stopped working; it needed a new bulb. Warwick ordered in a replacement projector bulb but when he started the process of trying to remove the projector himself to do the replacement, he quickly realised he was in over his head. When we arrived, we confidently removed the home cinema projector from the ceiling and replaced the bulb in no time. After we reinstalled the projector and re-aligned it, Warwick's Mermaid Beach home cinema was back up and running again!"

"Bethanie was sold an awesome SONOS multi-room speaker system for her Mermaid Waters home and needed some help with the installation and setup. The job involved us installing in-ceiling SONOS speakers, so it took quite a few hours to do a super neat job and clean up all the plaster mess. Once it was all done, SONOS is really easy to use, so we showed Bethanie how to work it with ease. Afterwards, Bethanie also needed help re-programming her BOSE remote as she'd changed her Foxtel box setup recently and it needed sorting out to suit the new setup."
