Some areas of the Gold Coast will always require you to have a TV signal amplifier / booster installed because the TV signal is too weak and without it your TV channels will pixilate. Other times large homes require a TV antenna booster / masthead amplifier to make their TV signal strong enough to get through a large amount of cable and splitters. Occasionally on an old home that can be found in Paradise Point or Hollywell the antenna on the roof receives a strong TV antenna signal but because the cabling is so old you either have to install a TV signal booster or replace all the cable (which is more costly) in order for the TV antenna signal to still be strong at the TV sockets.

Some more information on TV signal booster / Masthead amplifiers

  • TV signal amplifiers require power to work, 12-22v depending on the model A lot homes we find don't have TV reception because their booster isn't receiving power for some reason. An antenna specialist such as TV Magic can diagnose this issue on site.
  • Too much signal causing pixilation too! If you boost you TV signal too much you'll get the same result as having not enough which is pixilating TV channels. This is the same for any area, not just Paradise Point or Hollywell on the Gold Coast.
  • TV Signal boosters can be adjusted. Nearly all professional quality TV signal boosters have adjustment. They boost TV signal between a certain range which you can set according to the signal level you wish to achieve. Proper TV signal meter tools are required to test this and adjust accordingly.
  • Nearly all of them need to be water proof Most tv antenna signal amplifiers live up on the mast exposed to the weather in waterproof containers. Eventually though after a number of years the waterproof seal breaks or the cable tie holding it onto the mast breaks and water gets in and wrecks the booster.
  • You need the correct voltage to power them! You can't just wander into a retail store and buy a new power pack unless you know what voltage the amplifier requires otherwise it will malfunction and or overheat. It's best to call a professional TV technician if you believe you have a problem with your TV booster in Paradise Point or Hollywell Gold Coast.

A real-life example from today, 31st October 2017 follows:

Richard from Paradise Point, Hollywell Gold Coast called TV Magic out to help him get his TV reception working again after a recent storm. What we found was his tv antenna booster had suffered a lightning strike frying it and the antenna. We replaced his antenna amplifier, booster, digital antenna and splitter and helped Richard claim the cost back from his insurance company. Richard was very pleased with our prompt service and the fact the insurance company covered his costs.

Having TV reception problems? Pixelation? One channel dropping out or freezing?

Why does that happen? How is digital Tv different to analogue? Why do you only get problems on one TV point or only on one TV channel?

The following videos give you some answer to all of the above. These are very commonly asked questions. Basically, any problems you are experiencing will not fix themselves. They may come 'good again' however, this will be temporary. By Calling TV Magic we can ascertain by using our 'field strength meter' just how good or how bad your TV channels really are. When we test, we are looking to see if any channel is reaching minimum signal requirements. This will make sure there is enough 'head room' for fluctuation for bad weather, trees, a few broken elements and other factors that effect signal strength and signal quality. If these minimal requirements are not met, yes you may still have a 'perfect clear picture' however the BIG QUESTION is; for how long for? Yes your bald tyre does keep air in it and drives your car around, but obviously it's not going to take a nail or a bit of glass on the road as well as a brand new tyre.
