Some of the common equipment we setup for our customers are; DVD players, Apple TV, Sound Bars, Surround Sound Speakers, Foxtel Boxes, Fetch TV, Telstra TV, Speaker Amplifiers \ AV receivers, Projectors, Netflix etc.

If you're on the Gold Coast, you've probably already heard of TV Magic and our 5-star reputation when it comes to our service. If you haven't, just do a quick google of our business and you'll find hundreds of real 5-star google reviews left by customers of their own accord. When our technicians arrive, you're sure to be speaking with a clean-cut professional in audio visual equipment.

Aside from helping customers setup their soundbars properly, usually because their tv is making it difficult for the average person, we're often found hanging TV's on the walls (with concealed cabling of course), on a roof, doing TV antenna or satellite work, or inside a roof cavity running new cabling for speakers or tv / foxtel outlets in a home. Our Surfers Paradise team are basically jack of all trades when it comes to TV related issues. We even fix the occasionally high-rise when their TV signal goes down unexpectedly.

Here's a short list of things to check before deciding on a sound bar purchase.

1. Ensure that the sound bar supports HDMI ARC. This feature will allow your TV to easily control your soundbar with the TV remote, as long as your TV has HDMI ARC (which is most nowadays). It's the best way to connect your TV to your sound bar.

2. If your TV doesn't support HDMI ARC, choose a sound bar that supports optical sound input. This is also digital sound and is of high quality. The downside is, your TV remote may not be able to control your sound bar and you'll need to use both remotes. I'd suggest buying a sound bar the same brand as your TV to maximise your chance of not needing both remotes.

3. Cheap sound bars are awful. Unless you've got a minimum of $500 to spend, don't buy a sound bar. In my opinion, and I've installed many, many sound bars. Cheap, sub $500 sound bars sound terrible, are too quiet and typically your TV speakers will be better than using them.

4. Stick to the big-name brands. Avoid cheap brands like Kogan or Lazer etc. Basically, try to buy sound bars that the more premium TV or sound system manufactures produce. Like Samsung, BOSE, LG, Yamaha, SONOS, Harmon Kardon. You get the idea.

5. Don't expect much from the wireless rear speakers some of them come with. So far, as of 1st July 2019, all the of the sound bar models I've setup that have come with optional rear wireless speakers have been useless. Super quiet and basically, not worth using in my opinion. If you're after surround sound, stick with proper speakers and speaker amplifiers, not sound bars.

A real-life example from today, 1st July 2019 follows:

"Rochelle was sold a sound bar when she bought her new smart TV and the salesmen said it would be a 'plug and play' installation. However, Rochelle found this wasn't the case. This is a common situation our Surfers Paradise customers have. I'd say about only half of the sound bar installations work in a plug and play manner. It really boils down to the brand of the TV and the brand of the soundbar and whether they will play together nicely straight out of the box. Often, there is some weird sound setting on either the Tv or the sound bar that's stopping it from working. Ideally, you should be able to control your soundbar with the TV remote. It should also turn the sound bar on and off when the TV goes on and off."

"Lara in Surfers Paradise was having trouble setting up her home theatre surround sound speakers again after she moved house. She basically just handed us a big box of spaghetti cable and tangled speakers to sort out. Once we separated everything, it was a relatively easy job to setup this home theatre speakers as they cables are colour coded. What can be tricky though, is getting the TV to output sound to the speakers properly. Thankfully we always keep a variety of cables etc. with us in the work vans and we were able to get it all going then and there, since a few of the cables had gone missing during her move."
