At TV Magic Gold Coast we get a lot of requests to install new TV aerial and or Foxtel points in homes every week. There's no location too strange to us. We've installed new TV antenna outlets in bathrooms, fancy toilets and even in the loft. Ocassionally we'll even get a renter that just wants a cable dangling down from the roof antenna in through a window for a "no damage to the rental property" temporary TV aerial point.

Quite commonly we'll get enquiries about installing new TV points in the bedrooms for the kids and parents to help them get some peace time. We also commonly get enquiries about relocating tv and Foxtel connections from one side of a room to the other so they can re-arrange their furniture.

 4 Common mistakes electricians or husbands make when trying to install new TV or Foxtel points.

1. They use problematic wall plates. If you buy your TV wall plates at Bunnings or an Electrical wholesaler, chances are you're buying a problematic wall plate. A wall plate that is susceptible to having the plug part pushed right through the wall plate (It happens frequently). These plates typically have weak connectors that bend loose quickly too.
2. They use amateur cable connections. Wholesalers and hardwhare salesmen will typically sell connectors to non-TV industry experts that don't require the proper (expensive) tooling required to attach them to the coaxial cable. So, what happens is no matter how hard you try, these connectors they sell you easily pop off.
3. They stuff up the cable connectors. There are so many ways non-experts can stuff up coaxial cable connector installation, it only takes one hairline of insulation to wreck the signal coming out of a connector. A lot of electricians and DIYers, can't even check their work after they finish the install too, because they don't have the expensive industry specific tools.
4. They use high loss cheap coax cable. When buying coaxial cable there a quite a few variations. If you buy the wrong one, you're going to suffer from a lot of unnecessary signal loss and potential have issues putting termination connectors on at the ends.

A real-life example from today, 9th April 2019 follows:

"Andrea built a new home recently in Worongary but realised once he moved in that he forgot to include enough Foxtel points in his living room and lounge room. He really needed a duel output Foxtel plate but the builders only installed a single. This meant that we had to run a new Foxtel cable to each point in the home and change the Foxtel wall plate accordingly. Thankfully since there was already a Foxtel outlet installed we were able to use it as a draw line to speed up the process of getting a new Foxtel cable down the inside of the wall cavity."

"Patrick's wife decide that she wanted to change the furniture around in their living room in Worongary. Afterwards she realised she's going to need her Foxtel and TV aerial outlets relocated to the other side of the room too, so he called in TV Magic. When we arrived, we found her home to be a single storey tin roof home, and that the new location that she wanted the new TV and Foxtel points installed in was going to be a difficult cable run for us.
