"Petra moved home recently and brought boxes of TV equipment for us to setup in various locations at her home. She had four tv's, two with soundbars and two with surround sound speaker setups. We got all her TV's installed and tuned in no time and then we where onto her box of goodies. We found a playstation, a Telstra T-box, two apple TV's, a recorder, an AV receiver/ amplifier and a record player. After we set it all up, we spent some time going through it all with Petra to make sure she remembered how to use it all again. With a bit of time and some written instructions Petra from Currumbin was all over it."
5 Common mistakes customers make when trying to tune in their TV.
- They plug their antenna cable in, incorrectly. The back of the TV is easy as it only fits in one spot but customers sometimes don't know what socket to connect into the wall. We often find customers not being able to tune in their TV because they've connected their antenna cable to a telstra outlet or foxtel point instead of the TV antenna socket.
- They have an incompatible overseas TV model. If you bring your TV in from another country there's a significant chance you won't be able to tune it in here in Australia as we're on different frequencies and require a specific inbuilt type of tuner. Sometimes you're lucky and your TV comes with a country selector option that has Australia but we see a lot that don't.
- They can't get to the correct tuning menu feature. On a lot of TV models, if you don't have the source input set to digital TV then you may find the TV antenna tuning feature is not visible or it is disabled in the menu. This can certainly stump a lot of people and many customers in Currumbin Gold Coast have had just this problem with they call us out to help them setup and install their TV properly.
- They don't have the remote. Tuning a TV without a remote can be quite tricky and even sometimes not possible. Some even require a special DTV menu button only found on the original remote. Only through a lot of experience have we got this 'no remote' tuning dialed in to our skillset.
- TV won't wipe the old channel set after re-tuning. Some poorly designed TV's and tuners won't reset the TV channel list when you do a re-tune and basically just keeping adding to the bottom of the list so you get double ups or triple ups etc. These devices usually require a factory reset to get a clean channel list. Some even require more specific steps than that, it's really a make and model based as to what you have to do to re-tune the TV properly.
A real-life example from today, 4th March 2019 follows:
"Alley recently had a new antenna installed by TV Magic and later on bought a new TV. After auto-tuning the TV she was having TV reception issues unlike her other Tv's in the house. When we came back to investigate we found that her TV's auto-tune feature had tuned in the incorrect broadcasting tower for the area during the initial installation setup procedure. In this instance we had to factory reset the TV and manually tune in the Currumbin transmitter frequencies to solve her issue."
