5 audio visual things that can be tricky to setup.
- Sonos. Sonos when setup, is great, it's really easy to use. But the way you install and setup SONOS can be very frustrating, as you have to use their app and there's no manual override to get past a step if it just isn't doing what it's meant to do.
- Bose. Like Sonos, once BOSE systems are setup, they are great, and easy to use. But getting them setup and changing TV equipment on an existing setup can be painful! They are not like normal TV and sound equipment. You have to use their proprietary software, which as mentioned above, you can't manually override anything or skip a step. There's no cables or nobs to turn or settings to push, you have to follow their software wizard steps.
- AV receivers. This piece of sound equipment is common, but rarely understood by its owners. Once it's setup, if they bump a button, they have no idea what setting they need to change to get it to work again.
- Multi-zone Receivers. I've had many hair pulling moments trying to get multi-zone speaker settings to work properly on normal amplifiers. It's nearly always because of some oddly named setting in an oddly found place stopping it for working which was oddly integrated to begin with.
- Sound Bars. Sound bars themselves are easy to install and connect correctly with cables. It's dealing with all the TV models out there that have odd ball settings in place stopping them from automatically working with a new sound bar.
A real-life example from today, 1st May 2019 follows:
"Lilly was recently separated from her husband and was trying to do all the stuff he used to do for here in the TV department. She was struggling to use their home cinema projector setup at her Coolangatta home when she decided to call us experts in. When we arrived, we found a professional home theatre room installer, completed with 7.2 channel surround sound and high-end projector and amplifier. What we found was, that unknown to Lilly her husband had gone to the trouble of simplifying the use of the home cinema by integrating a fancy universal remote. Once we figured out how it was setup, we gave Lilly tuition on how to use it herself. Thanks Lilly from Coolangatta Gold Coast."
"Lyn was having trouble setting up her new sound-bar. She had plugged in all the cables correctly but just couldn't get any sound out of it other than the radio. When we arrived we found that Lyn had in fact cabled in the new Sound Bar Installation correctly at her Coolangatta unit, but, her particular TV required some sound settings to be adjusted in the menu, and also some other connection settings that weren't so obvious, so she could control the Sound Bar with her TV remote control."
